Theismann in San Antonio: No Doubt Brady is the Best Ever

Super Bowl champion quarterback Joe Theismann bows to Tom Brady as the best quarterback in the history of the NFL, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Theismann spoke this morning to a Trinity University Policymakers Breakfast, and later spoke with 1200 WOAI's Michael Board.

"The guy was a sixth round pick," Theismann said of Brady. "I was a fourth round pick, Joe Montana a third round pick, Dak Prescott a fourth round pick.  I think guys like us who didn't have to jump in right away are better off."

Theismann, 67, actually played for a season in the Canadian Football League before joining the Washington Redskins for a stories career that included two Super Bowls, one Super Bowl championship, and he was the NFL Most Valuable Player in 1983.

Theismann says said that Brady doesn't have to be loved by his teammates, but he has to be respected."You don't have to be liked by everybody, but respect is so vitally important," he said.  "Everybody respects Tom Brady.  I just hope the person who stole his jersey gives it back to him."

And Theismann, who is now a broadcaster, says he doesn't expect Brady to retire, even following Sunday's super bowl masterpiece.

"If he stays healthy, we'll see Tom Brady quarterbacking the Patriots for another three years, and probably another championship opportunity."

That's assuming Brady's career doesn't end in the gruesome way that Theismann's career ended.  He suffered a compound leg fracture when he was tackled by New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor during a Monday Night Football game in 1985.

The hit, which included clear audio of Theismann's leg snapping, was later voted 'the most shocking moment in sports history' by ESPN viewers.
