Legislation has been proposed in Kansas, one of 19 states that still allow corporal punishment in schools, that would allow teachers to spank students even harder than is currently permitted. The measure would okay spankings that could cause redness or bruising, going beyond those currently allowed that leave no marks.
According to Yahoo! Shine, many studies in recent years have found that spanking can have a wide range of negative effects, and the American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Association of School Psychologists are among those who are opposed to corporal punishment. But proponents believe it strengths character and counters permissiveness.
