The Rangers will be without a major piece of their starting rotation to start next season. Texas right-hander Max Scherzer will be sidelined until midseason after undergoing surgery for a herniated disk late last week. Scherzer was removed from the roster during the World Series due to back discomfort. Texas general manager Chris Young says that he hopes Scherzer will return by June or July. The 39-year-old went 4-and-2 with a 3.20 ERA in eight starts for Texas after being traded from the New York Mets last summer.
