The Texas Legislative Black Caucus and the NAACP are opposed to a school choice bill that's soon to go before the Texas House. The state Senate passed the $500 million bill last week. Democratic Representative Ron Reynolds of Missouri City spoke at the NAACP's annual convention in Pflugerville last Friday. Reynolds denounced what he calls the effort to hold teacher pay raises "hostage" to school voucher programs. The House may start considering the bill this week, and is less accepting of the idea than the Senate.
