An archaeological dig starts this week at the Alamo as part of the major renovation of the plaza. The Alamo Trust, the city of San Antonio, and the Texas General Land Office start the dig at the Plaza de Valero on Thursday. The work will aim to identify and preserve underground features before any new construction begins in the area during Alamo Plaza's ongoing makeover. The new Alamo Collections Center opened in March, and an Alamo Visitor Center and Museum is scheduled to open in 2026.
