Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin says he plans to resign in order to run for the District 80 seat in the Texas House. McLaughlin, a Republican, has been mayor since 2014 and led the community through last year's deadly school shooting. He says he plans to focus on property tax relief, school choice, and border security. The current District 80 representative is Tracy King, a moderate Democrat who has already announced his retirement.
