Shootout Over Stolen Car Leaves One Dead, Two Wounded

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus

A shootout in a parking lot of a southwest side shopping center has left one person dead and two other people wounded. It happened at the South Park Village shopping center near Military Drive and south Zarzamora.

Police Chief William McManus says a man had gone to the parking lot to try to retrieve his stolen car, when he confronted the alleged thief. McManus says the owner ordered the suspect out of the vehicle at gunpoint, sat them down and then called police. As they were waiting for police to arrive, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the owner. The owner returned fire, killing the suspect. In addition to the suspect, a passenger in the stolen vehicle was also shot. That person and the owner are now being treated at a San Antonio hospital.
