The Electric Reliability Council of Texas says the state's power grid should be able to handle the cold front expected to hit Texas later this week. The National Weather Service is warning Texans to prepare for frigid temperatures from Thursday night at least until Saturday. A winter storm in February 2021 caused widespread blackouts and hundreds of deaths statewide. ERCOT and the Public Utility Commission made changes to the grid to improve its performance during cold weather, many of them mandated by legislation passed in 2021.
