'Heartbeat Bill' Headed To Texas House After Senate Approval

A pro-life "heartbeat bill" is on its way to the Texas House after the state Senate gave its initial approval on Monday. Senate Bill 8 would ban abortions after an unborn child's heartbeat is detected. This can be as early as six-weeks, before many women know they're pregnant. The bill has no exception for rape or incest, but it does for medical emergencies. Courts have blocked similar bills that have been passed in other states, but SB-8 has reportedly been crafted in such a way as to help it be upheld.
