Texas Congressmen Urge Census To Continue Counting Through October

A pair of Rio Grande Valley congressmen are urging the head of the Census Bureau to continue counting efforts through the end of October. Congressmen Filemon Vela of Brownsville and Vicente Gonzalez of McAllen sent a letter to the Census Director Steven Dillingham this week outlining their objections. The two congressmen say response rates in South Texas have been low and that ending counting efforts early could keep the area from receiving critical resources to the area. Dillingham announced earlier in the week that this year's Census count would end on September 30th, four weeks earlier than originally scheduled.
