Austin Modifies Homeless Camping Rules

New rules surrounding homeless camping near the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless are going into effect tomorrow. Starting October 27, the no public camping zone will include northeast Downtown, as well as 15 feet from the entrance of a business. If someone violates these zones, police are instructed to inform the person of the other places they can legally camp. Then officers must provide information about where they can find shelter elsewhere in the city, and contact an official who can transport the camper to a place where it is allowed or to a homelessness service provider.
