Texas Secretary Of State Whitley Leaves Office

Texas State Capitol

Texas Secretary of State David Whitley no longer holds that position. Whitley delivered his letter of resignation to Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday afternoon. His departure was "effective immediately." Whitley needed Senate confirmation with at least 21 votes before the end of the legislative term on Monday. He was supported by all 19 Republicans, but opposed by all 12 Democrats. Abbott nominated Whitley to the job in December.
