Suspect Surrenders in Murder of Young Mother

A 25 year old man surrendered today to face charges in connection with yesterday's murder of a young mother as she sat in the bedroom of her northeast side home, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Police say Tyrend White was shooting at two teenagers who were sitting in the driveway of the home in the 3400 block of Coral Sunrise about noon Thursday.

But he missed, and one of several bullets he fired tore through the wall of the home and his Janice Crawford, 34, in the chest.

She staggered out the front door but died on the lawn.White sped away in a silver and purple car.

Police Officer Carlos Ortiz says White walked into the main police station downtown and gave up after he 'saw his picture on TV' and realized police were after him.  He said he wanted to cooperate but has since called for a lawyer and has declined to comment further.

He is expected to be charged with murder.
