Food Bank to Provide Meals to Pre-K 4 SA Students

Pre-K 4 SA and the San Antonio Food Bank have joined forces to provide two nutritious meals a day for the four year olds in the pre-school program, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

"Family style meals are an important part of high-quality early education because they help children develop healthy eating habits, learn social skills, and expand their vocabulary as teachers and children engage in the conversation around the table," Pre-K 4 SA CEO Sarah Baray said.

Food Bank CEO Eric Cooper says its a good mix.

"This is a strategy to really nourish, and the meals are scratch based, and they are prepared by talented chefs, along with culinary students at the Food Bank."

He says the students in Pre-K 4 SA, most of whom are from urban homes, will also have the opportunity to tour the Food Bank's garden and learn about where food comes from.

Family wellness activities will also take place as part of the program."Its always a challenge for any parent to get their kids to eat healthy," Cooper said.
