Two People Remain Unaccounted for in San Marcos Apartment Fire

Officials in San Marcos say two people remain unaccounted for following the devastating fire early Friday at the Iconic Village Apartments, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

City spokesman Trey Hatt says three bodies were recovered early Sunday from the scene of the fire.

Hays County Justice of the Peace Maggie Moreno declared the victims dead at the scene.  The Travis County Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy.

The City of San Marcos is opening a Resource Center for the 200 people who were displaced by the fire at the San Marcos Activity Center.  Hatt says organizations will be on site to answer questions and provide information on assistance progams available to residents affected by the fire.

"Search and recovery efforts will continue over the coming days," Hatt said.  "The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms National Response Team, a resource available to local agencies dealing with fires of this magnitude, is leading the investigation in conjunction with the State Fire Marshal's Office and the City of San Marcos Fire Marshal."
