UPDATE: Murder Charge Filed in Burned Body Case

San Antonio Police have now filed murder charges against a 20 year old man in connection with a body that was found burning inside a north side apartment last night, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Police say Ernesto Esquivel-Garcia is also charged with Abuse of a Corpse for setting the body of the murder victim on fire.

The man who died has not been positively identified because the body was burned so thoroughly.  Police have also not released a motive.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Firefighters who answered a call for a small fire at a north side apartment building last night found a big problem when they arrived, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

A badly burned body was found inside the unit at the Veranda Apartments in the 7900 block of Jones-Maltsburger, across 281 from the Quarry Market.

The victim is not believed to have been killed by the fire, which was confined to that apartment and was quickly extinguished.  The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
