Smoky Fire Destroys Northwest Side Car Dealership

A two alarm fire this morning destroyed a building and several autos at a car dealership at Bandera and Mainland on the northwest side, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

"This little building we fought defensively from the outside," Fire Department spokesman Woody Woodward said.  "Several of the cars in front of it were also on fire.  The building is going to be a complete loss."

Woodward says the second alarm was called in due to fear that the flames could spread to other buildings in the gusty winds, but firefighters got it contained to the one small building.

At one point two dozen fire trucks were on the scene, blocking traffic at the busy intersection.

"We have no idea what caused it, so we requested arson to come take a look and help us figure out what started this thing."

Nobody was in the building at the time and nobody was hurt.
