Tonight's 37th Holiday River Parade will Salute the Movies

The Christmas season in San Antonio officially begins Friday night with the 37th annual Ford Holiday River Parade, which will attract some 50,000 people to the downtown area, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

"Our theme this year is Christmas at the Movies, and every float will be based on a beloved Christmas movie," Paula Schechter of the Riverwalk Association said.  "All of your favorite Christmas movies will be represented there, if they're not, I don't know about the movie."

One float will even smell like popcorn, to get parade goers in the mood for movies.

The last minute plans for the parade were being made today.

"We've also got the Santikos float which will represent a Christmas release movie that everybody's excited about, that's the new Star Wars."

Schechter says Cheryl Ladd, who was one of the original Charlie's Angels in the seventies TV show, will be tonight's parade Grand Marshal, and will ride in the lead float. She is now a Boerne area developer.
