Canadian Murder Fugitive Set to Appear in San Antonio Court Today

President Donald Trump loves to talk about the "bad hombres" that come from Mexico but, today, a murder suspect from Canada is set to go before a federal judge in San Antonio, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Ager Hasan, 24, is accused of fatally stabbing his former girlfriend more than 30 times with a steak knife earlier this year.  Investigators with the Waterloo Regional Police believe he then jumped in his SUV and crossed the border into the United States in a bid to evade prosecution.

The case gained international attention when Hasan took to social media to tell his version of the events.  A Reddit user with the handle Redasblue101 claims he went to Melinda Vasilije’s house to mend their relationship after the couple broke up a few weeks prior.

Another post said he fled to the U.S. “to give myself some space and fully take in what happened before I turn myself in."

Canadian Police tracked his movements first to Buffalo, New York.  His black Honda HR-V was then spotted at a Walmart parking lot near Erie, Pennsylvania.

Hasan was arrested on July 11 in San Antonio by the U.S. Secret Service at a traffic stop as part of an ongoing counterfeit money investigation.

It was never revealed if he was involved in passing funny money while evading the cops, or how he was linked to the case.

"He was driving that 2016 Honda HR-V. It was believed that he was headed to the Mexican border,"  Waterloo Regional Police Spokesman Mike Haffner told reporters.

He says after the extradition date is set, Canadian police will escort Hasan back to Ontario where he'll face second degree murder charges.  If found guilty, that carries a life sentence.

But attorneys for Hasan want him released on bail, saying there is evidence that he is not guilty.

"And, casting doubt on his knowledge of the murder, the forensic analysis of the deceased’s phone shows a message from Mr. Hasan, which was time stamped after the time of her death," the motion reads.
