Northside ISD Counts 106,000 Students for Current School Year

The city's largest school district clocks in with 106,000 students this year, an increase of about 500 from the last school year, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Northside ISD officials say the district, which is the fourth largest in Texas, is continuing to grow, but not nearly as explosively as in the past decade.

Northside says some of those students are not permanent residents of the district, but are attending Northside schools due to destruction caused in their home towns last month by Hurricane Harvey.

A district spokesman says Northside is accommodating 86 Harvey evacuees and 2 evacuees from Hurricane Irma.

Northside last month opened two new schools, including the new John Marshall Harlan High School in Kallison Ranch in far northwest Bexar County.
