On Line iPhone Sale Turns to Nightmare

A 20 year old man learned the hard way this morning that if you're going to sell something on line, maybe meeting the buyer in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant and 3AM may not be the best idea, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Police say Israel Medellin found a buyer for his iPhone on the Offer-up app, and he met two men in the 2600 block of I-35 North, near Walzem Rd, to meet up with the buyer.

But Medellin learned quickly that the men had robbery, and not the purchase of an iPhone, on their minds.Police say one of the men pulled a gun, and was ordered to drive the two men to his home.

When he jumped out of the car, he was pistol whipped and one of the men fired several shots at him, but missed.

The robbers got away with the phone and the car, the car was later found abandoned.

Police stress that they have 'safe rooms' where merchandise purchased on line can be bought and sold at all police substations, and anyone can use them at no charge, even at 3AM.
