SAPD Patrol Car Hits Man in Street

A San Antonio Police Officer accidentally hit an apparently suicidal man he was searching for  on the city's northwest side early today, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The officer was on routine patrol on Potranco Rd near Ingram, just west of Ingram Park Mall, about 4AM when he encountered a woman who was standing right in the middle of the street.

He stopped and told her to get onto the curb.. She told the officer she was searching for a man who had told her he was 'trying to get hit by a car.'

The officer went off to search for the pedestrian,  and ended up striking him with his patrol car.

The man was wearing dark clothing and was in a very poorly lit area, and the officer said he simply didn't see the man.

The officer was not hurt.. The pedestrian was treated for minor injuries and will also undergo a mental evaluation.
