Wrong Way Driver Gets Thirty Years

The bar is closed for Richard Sanchez, 50, and it won't reopen until 2047.

News Radio 1200 WOAI reports that is due to a thirty year sentence Sanchez received for driving the wrong way down I-35 in January, with a blood alcohol content more than twice the legal limit, and killing an 18 year old Man when he slammed head on into his family's van.

Police say Miguel Hernandez, who suffered from muscular dystrophy, died of injuries suffered int he wreck.  Miguel's family was driving the right way down I-35 on January 7 when Sanchez hit them head on, causing the van to explode in flames.

Sanchez then ht two other vehicles.

Sanchez was 'combative' at the scene,according to police, and had to be restrained to have his blood alcohol level checked.

At the time of the wreck, Sanchez was on probation for another DWI conviction, and he had also been convicted of Indecency with a Child.

Sanchez will have to serve a full 15 years, until 2032, before he will even be eligible to see a parole officer.
