Four Year Old Boy Killed in East Side Drive-by Shooting

A four year old boy was killed as he slept and his mother seriously wounded in a drive by shooting on the city's east side overnight, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Police say they were called to the corner of Hub Ave and Gay Street, which is just south of East Commerce, about midnight.

When they arrived, they found the victims inside a home.

The four year old had been shot in the head, and he was dead by the time help arrived.

His mother was transported to University Hospital with a wound to the leg that police didn't immediately know was a gunshot or some other type of wound.

At least one other child inside the home at the time, a seven year old girl, was not hurt.

Police say a vehicle drove by and somebody inside the vehicle opened fire, spraying the house with bullets, before speeding off.

As usual in these cases, detectives don't know if the gunman meant to shoot at that house, who the intended targets were, or what a motive for the shooting may have been.No suspects have been named by police.
