New Braunfels Man Sentenced to Fifty Years for Killing Wife

A 61 year old New Braunfels man has been sentenced to fifty years in prison, essentially a life sentence, for killing his wife as she lay in bed, then setting the couple's home on fire, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

When firefighters were called to a house fire last November, they found the body of Gayle Hendry, a veteran New Braunfels teacher, lying dead in bed in the burning home with a bullet wound to the head.

Hendry was arrested in Mississippi the next day, driving the family SUV, and with the murder weapon inside the vehicle

.Comal County District Attorney Jennifer Tharp says Hendry pled guilty and accepted the fifty year sentence.

"Gary Hendry is a violent man who took the life of a valuable member of this community by shooting Gayle Hendry in the head as she law in bed, and then attempted to evade responsibility for his crimes by burning down their residents and fleeing the state," Tharp said.
