Bergdahl Completes Questioning at Ft. Sam
Posted Thursday, August 7th 2014 @ 6pm

It's now up to an Army Major General to make a recommendation on what will happen to Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, after a day and a half of questioning at Ft. Sam Houston came to an end this afternoon, Newsradio 1200 WOAI reports.

Eugene Fidell, Bergdahl's lawyer, told Newsradio 1200 WOAI that today's session was simply a review of yesterday's full day of questioning about how Bergdahl came to leave his forward operating base in Afghanistan and become a captive of the Taliban.

"Gen. Dahl had an opportunity to review his notes over the evening, and today also gave everybody an opportunity to catch their breath after a long hard day yesterday," Fidell told News Radio 1200 WOAI.

Fidell said Bergdahl welcomed the opportunity to tell his side of the story.

"It was a job and he had to do it," Fidell said.

Dahl will now make a recommendation on whether Bergdahl should be punished.  He can recommend everything from no punishment, to court martial on a charge of Desertion in the Face of the Enemy, which carried a potential punishment of life in prison.

Fidell said Bergdahl answered every question that was put to him, and never used his Fifth Amendment rights to avoid answering a question.

"He answered every single one," Fidell said.

The final decision will not be made by Dahl.  He will issue a recommendation to the Army, which can accept or reject his proposals.
