Police and the Bexar County Sheriff's Fugitive Task Force early today arrested a man in connection with the murder in May of Balcones Heights Police Officer Julian Pesina, Newsradio 1200 WOAI reports.
Pesina, who had alleged ties to the Mexican Mafia prison based gang, was ambushed by two men as he left the Notorious Ink Tattoo Parlor on Hillcrest near Babcock Road in Balcones Heights late in the evening of May 4th.
Pesina was a co-owner of the establishment.
The murder of Officer Pesina led to a shake-up in the Balcones Heights Police Department and the firing of the Police Chief.
San Antonio Police Chief William McManus was asked about the possibility of a gang connection.
"That's all related to the motive," McManus said. "Its been assumed all along that it was gang related, but I can't confirm that with any certainty because I don't know at this point."
San Antonio Police Department spokesman Sgt. Javier Salazar says the FTF obtained information that the suspect, Jerry Idrogo, 33, was in Toledo Ohio. SAPD and the FBI worked with Toledo Police to arrest Idrogo without incident about midnight this morning.
Idrogo is currently in jail in Toledo, awaiting extradition to Bexar County. McManus said he will face a capital murder charge when he is returned to San Antonio.
