"You are not alone"

That's the message South Florida's members of Congress are sending to the family of Miami journalist Steven Sotloff, who is being held by ISIS militants.

U.S. Representatives Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen say the U.S. government is doing everything it can to bring Sotloff home.

So far, it hasn't worked. Wasserman-Schultz says precious few diplomatic avenues between the U.S. and ISIS exist. A secret U.S. mission to rescue ISIS captives in Syria earlier this summer failed.

A video posted online shows ISIS fighters threatening to kill Sotloff if the U.S. continues its air campaign in Iraq. ISIS militants were also videotaped beheading fellow American journalist James Foley.

Sotloff's loved ones have started a petition urging President Obama to take any and all measures to rescue Sotloff. So far, more than 5,000 people have signed the petition. You can see the petition HERE
