Miami-Dade's police union is serious about cracking down on election fraud.
Members of the Dade County Police Benevolent Association will give $10,000 to the person who offers them a tip that sends to prison someone who commits absentee ballot fraud.
Union Secretary Luis Fuste says even with the county department handcuffed by budget cuts, a cop's job is still to protect and serve.... especially when it comes to the fundamental right to elect representatives.
With the elimination of the Miami-Dade Police's Public Corruption Unit, the FBI is supposed to investigate absentee ballot fraud, but election violations are state crimes.
Fuste says that means FBI agents can only handle election fraud cases that reach certain levels or cross jurisdiction lines.
He and other PBA members fear, after seeing a county grand jury report, absentee ballot fraud is a serious problem in the area.
To report a tip about absentee ballot fraud, call the PBA at 305-593-0044.
