Fired Broward Deputy To Be Sentenced In Rothstein-Related Case
Posted Thursday, July 24th 2014 @ 7am

Another former Broward sheriff's deputy will be sentenced in federal court for his connection to notorious Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein and his criminal activities.

Jeff Poole has pleaded guilty to one count of conspiring to violate civil rights, admitting he arrested a Broward woman for no legal reason, as a favor to one of his bosses at Rothstein's request.

The woman who was falsely and illegally arrested was the ex-wife of a Rothstein associate who was battling her in a child custody case at the time.

Family and friends have sent the judge hundreds of pages filled with commendations, awards, and character reference letters hoping for leniency for Poole who previously had a superb reputation -- once named Deputy of the Year.

He also won two lifesaver awards for heroic actions in the line of duty.

Poole faces up to ten years in federal prison in the case.
