There is controversy with the way one Florida gubernatorial candidate is advertising his campaign.
Decals with the name of Democratic candidate Charlie Crist were removed from Josh Wise's #98 race car. The car had six mentions of Crist's name and was set to race in Saturday's Coke Zero 400 at Daytona.
The Republican Party of Florida complained citing campaign finance laws and the car's owner, Phil Parsons, decided to have the sponsorship pulled. Parsons will return the sponsorship money.
Officials from the Republican Party of Florida claimed that Crist exceeded the $3,000 per person max on in-kind donations. Crist's campaign manager Brendan Gilfillan told the Daytona Beach News-Journal that the sponsorship was made to the Charlie Crist for Florida political committee and thus not bound by that election law.
